THE SPACE RACE IS ON FOR 2008!

Posted by freeridemontpelier on April 3, 2008

Very soon, Freeride will be losing its storage space where it houses
hundreds of bikes waiting to be fixed or used for parts or art. Do you
know of any good storage space? Basements of buildings in town, unused
garages, warehouses? Free is preferable, but we may be able to pay modest
rent.

Also, while we love our shop space, we are almost constantly feeling the
limit of its size. Ideally, we would like to find a suitable shop space
attached to or very close to a storage space.

Please email us with ideas!

Volunteers Needed for ORS Century Ride

Posted by freeridemontpelier on July 25, 2007

We need volunteers to work at the Onion River Sports Century Ride THIS Saturday.

We need help out at the Montpelier Recreation Field: two people from 1-3pm and one person from 3-6pm. to congratulate riders, record times, help with the BBQ, clean up and tear down.

We need one person to help at the North Wolcott Food Stop from 12:15 to 2pm to set up food, drinks, table and tent, hand out food to riders as they arrive, encourage riders, clean up and take down. (Food and drink to be picked up at ORS on Langdon Street and transported to North Wolcott)

We need people to bake cookies! Oatmeal, date, molasses, peanut butter and other yummy cookies! The cookies can be dropped off at the Library on Friday, July 27 or ORS on Langdon Street.

If you can help us out please let me know.

Thank You!

Barre Bike Run Update

Posted by pastavibes on July 23, 2007

Hey all.

I got a couple of quick responses to go take a look at the bikes today
from Colin and Robin, and those two, plus a dog, plus my friend Josh
who works for the city of Barre, made for a full car. But we did have
a look at the bikes and it seems like there is a pretty good
selection. Lots of department store-level bikes, but also some pretty
decent bikes as well. One that stood out for me was a steel frame kids
Jamis mountain bike.

We came back with two bikes — I had my bike rack in my trunk — which
are now at the space. There’s a Raleigh mixte that I think has some
potential (ignoring the tacoed front wheel), and a Univega frame with
a chunk of one of the seat stays sawed off (I assume to remove a bike
lock). The Univega can at least be used for parts.

The plan now is to set up a time when we can go get the rest of the
bikes. Josh has a truck and will  likely have access to a trailer at
some point in the near future. So we have to now set up a time to get
the bikes. I was thinking the weekend of August 4th — how does that
work for everyone interested?

Barre Bike Run

Posted by pastavibes on July 22, 2007

Hey all.

I just spoke with my city planner friend over in Barre, and we can
have the confiscated bikes if we want them. The only issue is that
it’s an all-or-none deal. So we need to clear out 40 bikes from a
garage up on Route 14. I haven’t seen the bikes myself, but I’ve heard
they are of mixed quality. I hope to get up there to have a look
sometime in the next couple of days.

So, is anyone still interested? Also, does anyone have access to a
truck? My roommate’s bit the dust a couple weeks back so I’m out of
luck in that regard.

Confiscated Bikes in Barre

Posted by pastavibes on June 21, 2007

Hey all.

Just got word from a friend of mine who works for the city of Barre
that the city has about 40 confiscated bikes sitting in a house up on
Route 14. It sounds like we’d be able to take them away if we want
them. Interested? If so I should be able to set up a time to head up
there and check them out.

Road trip to Proctor?

Posted by pastavibes on June 11, 2007

I know this guy through bike forums who is moving, and has a bunch of project bikes to donate to the coop, but he doesn’t have a way to bring them up. Does anybody with a truck or a van have any interest and/or ability to go down and pick up the following bikes and parts? I count 6 complete bikes, a frame and some misc parts. He’s in Proctor VT (73.8 mi about 1 hour 37 mins according to google maps), and needs them gone by Sunday.
Anyone interested in helping out contact mattface@gmail.com

Matt

  • Two Peugeots, both complete, one is ‘85 running but ruff.
My occasional commuter. The other 70’s mixte, just needs TLC.
  • A late 70’s Motobecane….complete, ruff , needs a chain, TLC.
I rode it up until the first snowstorm of last year. Salt wrecked the chain.
  • An ‘82(?) Panasonic 2000, chrome framer, Complete but ruff.
    Good parts or conversion unit.
  • An ‘82 Schwinn World. Real nice for age, complete, a frontwheel tweak and TLC and its good to go!
  • A ‘62 Raleigh Sport. Complete, OK and rideable, no second gear.
  • Some misc. bars, seats an old 90’s era Schwinn MTB frame
